Pantry Fit Finder

Measure your shelf and the container or organizer you are considering. The Fit Finder tests both orientations and shows what actually fits before you buy.

Enter your measurements

Use the outside dimensions of the container or organizer, including handles, lid overhangs, or other protrusions. Measure the shelf's clear usable space, not its nominal size.

1. Shelf space
2. Container or organizer
3. How you want to use the shelf

Clearance is optional. Add a small amount if you want finger room or the published dimensions are very tight.

How to measure before using the Fit Finder

Measure the clear width between walls, shelf supports, hinges, or trim. Measure depth only as far as an organizer can sit without preventing a door from closing. For height, measure to the shelf above or the lowest obstruction.

For the item you are considering, use its exterior dimensions. Handles, lid lips, wheels, feet, and tapered sides can matter. Manufacturer dimensions are useful for screening, but very tight fits deserve a second measurement before purchase.

How the calculation works

The Fit Finder tests the item's stated width and depth, then rotates the footprint 90 degrees and tests again. For each orientation it calculates whole rows and columns only. If you mark the item stackable, it also calculates how many complete vertical layers fit. Any extra clearance you enter is added to the item's width, depth, and height, so each item keeps that much room on the shelf.

Maximum capacity favors the arrangement with the largest count. Easiest access favors fewer front-to-back rows when possible. Balanced mode considers capacity first, then accessibility when layouts hold the same number. The calculation uses only the measurements you provide and does not rank products or brands.
